While we love the classic White Russian cocktail, when we’re looking for an extra decadent dessert cocktail, we turn to the mudslide. If you're a Baileys fan—this will be your new favorite after-dinner treat. With all the same ingredients as a White Russian (vodka, Kahlúa, and heavy cream), the mudslide gets another boozy, sweet boost with the addition of Baileys. The result is a creamy, sweet cocktail that is dangerously good. Here’s how to make it:
A mudslide: two ways.
There are two ways you can make a mudslide: frozen and blended, or the classic version made in a cocktail shaker, like we did here. The classic version is our go-to, and only requires adding your vodka, Kahlúa, Baileys, and heavy cream to a cocktail shaker with ice, then shaking until well chilled. Serve in cocktail glasses decorated with (optional) chocolate syrup, and you’re good to go!
If you prefer to make it frozen, simply add all of the same ingredients—including your ice—into a blender, and blend until combined and smooth.
Top tips for how to make a mudslide cocktail:
— Get it cold. This is a drink that is best served cold—almost ice cold. We recommend you chill everything (except the syrup) before assembly—the glass, vodka, Kahlúa, Baileys, cream, shaker—to ensure that your cocktail is as cold as can be.
— Add some chocolate. You can omit the chocolate syrup if you like, but we love the extra-rich addition it gives to this cocktail. If you want to truly make things decadent, go right in with some melted chocolate instead.
— Top it up. Your topping options are endless here! While a classic would just have some whipped cream, you could do something more fun like dipping the rim in chocolate syrup and coating it with crushed Oreos.
Make it vegan.
For the lactose intolerant and vegans: Rejoice! Baileys offers a vegan alternative made with almond milk. As for the heavy cream, there are a number of delicious plant-based alternatives made from soy, oats, or almond that you can sub out as well.
