When it comes to grilling flavor-packed summer sides, veggies usually get all the love. But, here at Delish, we think grilled fruit is vastly overrated. We love our fair share of grilled fruit (lookin' at you, grilled peaches), but the grill really works its magic on sweet, tropical pineapple. Not only does it bring out all of the pineapple’s juices, but they’ll caramelize and char—a very good thing, trust us—over the hot grates. Add it as a touch of sweet to your savory summer dinner, or as the cherry (er...pineapple?) on top of your dessert. Read on for all the ways to use and perfect this delicious grilled recipe:
Top tips for grilling pineapple.
— Your pineapple doesn’t have to be perfectly ripe. Not only does grilling bring out the fruit’s natural sweetness, but it’s a great way to serve it if it’s not entirely ripe yet. If you’re just itching to eat that under ripe pineapple, grilling will help make the fruit perfectly sweet and juicy.
— Switch up the sweetness. Instead of brown sugar, feel free to switch things up with honey or maple syrup. If you’re not into the added sugar idea, no prob—you can totally leave it out! It’s great with just the lime juice and a sprinkle of salt.
— Make it savory. If you want to nail the sweet and savory combo, leave off the sweetener and add a little chili powder or Tajín.
